£lo,ooo ROADING SCHEME TURNED DOWN
Fear that the ratepayers would riot sanction an expenditure of £ 10,000 led the Devonport Borough Council last night to turn down a scheme to connect the central portion of the borough with Stanley Bay end by means of a roadway down Alison Avenue, past the new park at Melrose, and connecting with Waterview Road.
The new roadway would have opened the last of the blind patches in the borough and formed a circular route for the buses now using Calliope Road. It was proposed to ask the Government for a £1 for £1 subsidy on wages under the relief of unemployment regulations.
