WORK ON “FOUR DEVILS”
Having completed her sensational role in F. W, Murnau’s “Four Devils," Mary Duncan is preparing for the leading part in Frank Borzage’s “The River,” which is to go into production shortlv. Miss Duncan is to play the role of Rosale (the red bird) in this picturisation of T.ristram Tupper s gripping novel. Borzage is y er T-f- n ” thusiastic about Miss Duncan s ability which registers even more on the screen than it did in her performance as “Poppy" in "The Shanghai Gesture” on the speaking stage. Those already cast are Mary Duncan, Charles Farrell and Ivan know. In keeping with the magnitude ot the production, Fox Films has brought the author from New York to work on the adaptation of his story to the screen. Emil Jannings uses no make-up with the exception of a little grease paint and pencil lines, in his characterisation of the mad Czar, Paul I. of Russia, in the Paramount production "The Patriot." In all of his other roles in Paramount pictures the great actor has used wigs and beards, but he prefers to be clean shaven.
