RECORDS SHAKEN IN SPRINTS Cameron and Miss Robertson PHENOMENAL times were put up by Billy Cameron, New Zealand men’s sprint swimming champion, and Peggy Robertson intermediate girl champion, over 100 yard distances at the Waitemata. Swimming Club's carnival last evening. The men’s and the women’s records were shaken. David Lindsay made his first public appearance in Auckland and swam well in several events.
\ LMOST a capacity attendance at the Tepid Baths watched I. W. Cameron, of Wellington, equal his own New Zealand record for 100 yards. But Cameron's showing was not alone as a brilliant effort. Peggy Robertson, the voung Parnell Club girl.
in breaking her own record for the New . Zealand in termed! - I ate girls’ 109 yards, equalled the women’s open record established in 1924 by Ena Stockley. Five official watches Avere on Miss Robertson, and she covered the distance in 65 3-Ssec. Her own intermediate re-
cord was 68 2-ssec, but Miss Bofoertson was confidently expected to beat this, as she has been swimming near to Miss Stoekley’s record in her last two or three races since- the national championships, and last week was accredited with beating the time. ' PACE-MAKER FLAGGED Last evening the pacemaker was making heavy weather of it before three-quarters of the first lap was ended, and after that Miss Robertson went ahead, and actually received no pacing for most of the distance. Fully paced, she would probably beat Miss Stockley’s record. In the circumstances last evening, she swam brilliantly. Four Aucklanders—Lindsay, Farrell, Sellars, and De Loree —failed to stop Cameron in the invitation 100 yards handicap, in which the national champion equalled liis own record of 55 4-5
Fortunes changed according to handicaps during the race, and Cameron overhauled his men in brilliant style, to win by a yard. Lindsay (4sec), who was prominent right through the race, was caught, by Farrell (3sec) on tho last yard, and the pair tied for second place. Cameron was beaten by handicap men in the first heat of the 50 yards open handicap, but, partnered with Miss Robertson, he tied for first place in tho dual relay with M. Honeyfield and Miss M. Smith.
Jack Enwright swam a clever race to beat David Lindsay in the club quarter-mile. It was really a race between the paix*. Enwright had 13sec start on his club-fellow, and produced a fine finishing effort over the last lap, in which Lindsay strove to get up in time. Results:

Cameron, of Wellington, New Zealand sprint swimming champion, is making a special trip to Auckland to race Arne Borg, of Sweden, world’s champion, at the Tepid Baths on March 11. Cameron originally expected to race Borg in the South, but cancellation of Borg’s Aisit to Wellington has made the trip to Auckland necessary. The race will be the most important in New Zealevel’s swimming history. Borg has beaten Cameron’s time for 300 yards, 55 4-ss. Cameron has not been fully extended in the tA\'o races in Avhic hhe has made his time, once at Wellington and again at Auckland, so it is quite likely that he will improve on his time.
