FLIGHT TO AUSTRALIA
FINE VICKERS MACHINE ARRANGEMENTS COMPLETED (Australian and N.'A. Press Association) Reed. 11 a.m. LONDON, Monday. Arrangements were definitely completed to-day to place the VickersVellore airplane at the disposal of Flying-Officers Moir and Owen for their Australian flight. Vickers, Armstrongs, Siddeleys and Shell Products are jointly co-operating to ensure success. The Jaguar engine is considered one of the latest triumphs in British air engine development. Many important improvements have been incorporated: for instance, the exposed metal parts are now specially treated to prevent sea-water corrosion. A new reduction of gearing provides for greater propeller e ciency, higher engine revolutions and greater reserve power than was previously possible. The engine will be conveyed from Coventry to Weybridge to-morrow and installed in the Vickers-Vellore, which is expected to be ready for a trial flight at the end of next week.
