FEROCIOUS SHARKS

SYDNEY YOUTH BITTEN IN SERIOUS CONDITION SYDNEY, Monday. Another attack by a shark on a bather occurred to-day at Marouba Beach. Alau Butcher, aged 20, was swimming with four other youths when a shark appeared and bit some flesh from one of his thighs. The injured youth cried for help and his companions, aided by a timely wave, took him safely ashore. He is suffering from shock and loss of blood and is in a serious condition. An example of the ferocity of sharks was witnessed to-day at Dee Why, six miles north of Sydney. Three of the monsters went to within 10ft of the beach and greedily snapped pieces of flesh out of a whale which was stranded on the foreshore and was tethered awaiting transference to the Zoological Gardens. Resourceful fishermen caught one of the sharks, which was placed in a canvas tank and taken to the zoo.
