CARTERS FINED £2 Messrs. Rothery and Wilson were charged at the Otahuhu Police Court yesterday, before Mr. F. 11. Levien. S.M.. with using motor-lorries carrying weight above the classification of the Puhi Xui Road, Papatoetoe. Inspector Clark, of the Manukau County Council, stated the road in question was classified to carry loads not exceeding four tons. Defendants were using four-ton lorries and carrying up to five tons of metal **hips. Defendants stated they had been prevented from using the roads through tho Papatoetoe district, and had to use this road to reach their destination. Since the inspector had taken action, smaller lorries had been used. Defendants stated that with petrol tax, heavy vehicle tax, registration and driver’s licence, it cost over £l5O a year for permission to use the lorries. A fine of £ 2 was inflicted, with court costa 10s.
