A SCIENCE PILGRIMAGE

TO SEE SOLAR ECLIPSE LONG JOURNEY TO MALAYA ( United Service) LONDON, Friday. Four scientists will sail from Liverpool to-morrow on a journey of 7,500 miles to Malaya with more than 100 packing-cases, some of which weigh more than half a ton. in order to witness a total eclipse of the sun on May 9. The spectacle will last five minutes. The scientists in question are:—Dr. Jackson and Mr. P. Melotte, of Greenwich Observatory, and Colonel Stratton and Dr. Carrol, of Cambridge. Special eclipse expeditions are also to leave America, Holland, Germany and other countries. To minimise the risks of bad weather they will take up tlieir stations at various points on the belt of totality. The various scientists will pool the results of their observations.
