MAORI COLLEGE VISITED
HON. ATMORE AT NORTHCOTE A visit of inspection was paid yesterday afternoon to St. Stephen's Rural College for Maori Boys at North - cote by the Hon. H. Atmore, Minister of Education. He was accompanied by the Mayor of Takapuna, Mr. J. W. Williamson, and the Mayor of Northcote, Mr. A. E. Greenslade. Before his inspection of the college he was pre-
sented with an address on behalf of the Maori scholars by Father Spierings, principal of the school. Bishop Cleary escorted the Minister over the institution and explained the tuition system. The Minister congratulated the bishop and the staff upon the work of the school, and added that, in his opinion, the work being done toward the education of the Moari race could not be overestimated. It was his first visit to an agricultural college, he added, since assuming ministerial rank, and he was greatly impressed wit*i what he had seen.
