NO STOPPING THEM

SUICIDES AND GRAFTON BRIDGE COUNCIL TAKES NO ACTION “Persons who have made up their minds to commit suicide will do so unless there is a structure on top of Grafton Bridge that would entirely spoil the appearance of the bridge.” This statement was made to the City Council by the city engineer last evening. He reported that it would cost £6BO to put netted wire on the sides to a width of four feet. The council reiterated its previous decision to take no action. Councillor L. A. Eady asked if any other scheme had been discussed. Councillor J. Dempsey, the Works Committee chairman: There can be no alternative even if we roofed the bridge over. If people are of that turn of mind they will get over.
