Entries in many sections • i touched new high levels, New Zealand | records being claimed in some in- j i stances. ; Entries in the dairy classes proved i one of the features of the show, and | j provided convincing testimony to the j j general trend of the farmers through- j j out the district to increase production j through the breeding of higher quality ! stock. Entries were drawn from all parts, most of the better-known breeders of the province giving the fixture > support. The showings of Jerseys and Shorthorns was particularly fine. ; Entries in the horse sections, parti - j cularly in he hunters’ classes, rivalled j even those at the last Waikato fixture l’or quality or quantity. The section was one of the big features of interest i throughout the day. In the industrial section many of the entries of technical school pupils were of outstanding merit, and would have commanded attention at any show in the Dominion. Awards are as follow: — CATTLE Milking Shorthorns.—Cow: G. D. Hall's Matangi-Lilic V. Reserve champion: Wood Brothers’ Roulcen-Glen Primrose. Friesians. Cow: Hobson Farm’s Ormsby-Hartag-Queen. Bull: Hobson Farm’s Spring-bank-Zozo-Mercena. Reserve champion: Hobson Farm’s Hobson Ensign XIII. Jerseys.—Cow: W. H. Carter's Ivy Fox. Reserve champion: W. H. Muir’s Jersey Brae Seashell. Ayrshires.—Cow: T. M. Thomson, senr’s., Carmel-Glen Nora. Reserve champion: W. Lawton’s Statley Pukeoware. Bull: M. Kelly’s Ashleigh Park Sir Hugh. Reserve champion: T. M. Thomson, senr.’s Eden Part Peter Gordon. SH EEP Lincolns.—Ram: C. R. Bischoff. Ewe: E. Barriball. Border Leicester. —Ewe and ram: C. H. Hodgkin son. English Leicester.—Ram / ul ewe: E. M. Wilson. Romney.—Ram: F. Mullins. Ewe: A. D. Bell. Shropshire Downs.—Ram: J. Duder. Ewe: E. Barriball. Southdowns. —Rain: G. R. and H. Hutchinson. Ewe: H. S. MeCarroll. , Ryeland.—Ram: J. Schlaepser. Ewe: Wesley College. HUKERENUI SHOW SUCCESSFUL FIXTURE Increased entries and higher gate receipts favoured the 15th annual fixture of the Hikurangi and Otonga Ridings Farmers’ A. and P. Association held on Wednesday. The classes for Friesian cattle showed an appreciable increase, and entries in the Shorthorn classes were well maintained, but Jerseys were in small numbers. Horses were numerous, particularly in the class for medium draughts. In the ring events there was keen competition in most instances. There was a noticeable absence of sheep and pig entries. The inside exhibits were well up to standard. Championship awards in the Jersey sections were made as follow: Registered Shorthorns. —Champion bull: A. Wiblin. Champion cow: J. J. Whimp. Pedigree Jerseys.—Champion registered bull: E. M. Bayliss.
Pedigree Friesians.—Freisian champion bull: C. H. Steadman. 1. Reserve champion: T. O’Hanlon. Champion cow: C. H. Steadman.
