POWER BOARD’S TOUR
SOUTHERN DISTRICTS INSPECTED DEPUTATIONS RECEIVED Members of the Auckland Power Board made a tour of inspection of the southern portion of the board’s district, calling at Alfriston, Clevedon, Papakura, Manurewa, Papatoetoe, Mangere and Onehunga, this morning. The first stop at Alfriston saw a deputation when Mr. J. Muir, on behalf of settlers, asked for power extensions to the district. They asserted that it would be a payable proposition and a canvass of the residents showed that 10 motors, 2 stoves and between 50 and 60 houses were waiting to be Connected up. “Well, we have to take the thin with the thick,” said Mr. W. J. Holdswortli, the board chairman, “and though it will not pay at the outset we will proceed with the work of reticulation as soon as possible if the. loan of £675,000 is carried on Wednesday.” Provision for the work had been made in the loan, he continued, and •work would be commenced as soon as the Clevedon reticulation was completed. At Clevedon Mr. Holdswortli addressed a number of settlers, and expressed regret that they had been troubled with power breakdowns. This matter would be rectified as soon as the reticulation was completed. A halt was made at Papakura for lunch.
