Arapuni to Supply Power in June

15,000 KWS AT FIRST SAFETY OF THE DAM (From Our Own Cowespondent) HAMILTON, To-day.

Mr. T. Rabone, Chief Public Works Engineer at Arapuni, estimated the first supply of power from the hydro-electric works will be available about June, the amount being 15,000 kilowatts. Further supplies will probably be available in September and December, or January. Mr. Rabone assured a reporter that the dam is perfectly safe, as the ground would bear a pressure of from 70* to 100 *tons a square foot, the present greatest pressure being only | eight tons. | Comparing the conditions of the i St. Francis dam, California, he said i that the collapse of that dam was due j to the disintegration of the hard pan \ on whijeh the dam was constructed, re- ! suiting from water action on : ground previously dry. There was no , j such possibility at Arapuni.
