It was decided to write to the Devonport Ferry Company about the vehicu- | lar ferry charges, which were higher to Birkenhead than to Devonport, n( j ito ask for a later night service. In reply to an expression of opinion being asked for from the Alarine Boroughs’ Association on the harbour bridge question, the Alayor stated that the Marine Boroughs’ Association should help the bridge project as it was vitally important to the four North Shore boroughs, and that it was time the people this side of the harbour stood up like men and demanded the bridge. He criticised the Alayor of Auckland’s statement about a bridge j 100 feet wide ana said there v.as no I road in Auckland at the present Hiy feet wide. “If we cannot get a 66ft bridge, lei us have one on which two vehicles can pass,” he said. After quoting the benefits of the Grafton Bridge and the values it had put on the Grafton side of the city which, with the extra rates derived had more than paid for that bridge, he moved that tho council should support the harbour bridge propose:. ' and say that the time had now arrived , when the bridge scheme should be ’ pushed forward and not shelved.
