CRAMPED AND CROWDED
RICHMOND ROAD SCHOOL MINISTER PROMISES HELP “I have seen your school, and I am convinced that the conditions for bringing up intelligent and healthy boys and girls are not complied with,” said the Hon. H. Atmore, Minister of Education, when the need of a new school to replace the old Richmond Road primary school was urged upon him yesterday. After inspecting the school* when the Minister was shown the cramped conditions, a deputation representing the school committee waited on him. Mr. T. Aitken said they had been waiting for a new school since 1922. In that year the Government made a grant of £2,000 for remodelling, but the architect decided that the expenditure of so small a sum would be useless, and consequently they lost the £2,000.
‘‘lt is impossible to do anything before March 31,” said the Minister. “However, I will use every endeavour to have a sum for the purpose placed on the Estimates for the next financial year.”
