SPOILED BY SEA WATER
DAMAGE TO MAKURA’S MAILS
Press Association WELLINGTON, Monday. When the mails were landed from the R.M.S. Makura to-day a considerable quantity of letters and newspapers from England was found to be wet. In several cases the addresses on the mail matter were not decipherable. A quantity of letters and newspapers was reconditioned to-day for delivery. The mails were for Wellington and other places in the Dominion. It is believed the mails became wet while crossing the Atlantic to during a period of heavy storms when large quantities of water were shipped by even the largest liners.
