LOST LIVES IN SURF

BRAVERY RECOGNISED ROYAL HUMANE AWARDS Press Association CHRISTCHURCH, Monday. The Court of Directors of the Royal Humane Society of New Zealand to-day made the following awards for bravery: Memorial certificate and silver medal to the relatives of the late Thomas Bielby, Dillicar, aged 50, and Clarence Hunter, aged 19, who were drowned in the surf at Ocean Beach, Kawhia. Both men went to the assistance of two boys who were in trouble. Mr. Dillicar rescued the; boys, but Mr. Hunter got into trouble and Mr. Dillicar went to his aid. Framed certificate to Lily Otene, of Puaha, aged 10, who rescued a Maori boy aged 8 from death by burning on December 3, 1928. Letter of commendation to John William O’Donoghue and Vernon Maurice O’Donoghue, aged 12 and 11 respectively, for rescuing a child from drowning in the River Avon on December 8.
