POOR PAY FOR MAYORS
INCREASE TO BE ASKED FOR
' The modern Mayor has a hard row to hoe,” said Mr. W. C. Coldicutt at last evening’s meeting of tne Onehu iga Borough Council.
Most public men, he continued, offered their services to the people in an unselfish spirit and did not look for nac notary rewards, but he felt sure thiit the ratepayers did not expect them to give of their private means as wtll as of their time and experience. !e contended that the honorarium now paid to the Mayor of Onehunga wa :i inadequate and that future holders of the office should be provided with sufficient means not only to uphold the dignity of the position but to enable them to meet the ever-in-cr 'asing demands of sports bodies, charitable institutions, etc., without dri.wing on their private incomes. He therefore gave notice to move at the next meeting of the council that tno .Mayor’s honorarium be increased Irum £l5O to £2OO a year. 4/
