Will General Seek Parliament’s Aid?
LEGALISING DEED POLL MESSAGE TO THE “WAR CRY” (United I*.A.—By Telegraph — Copyright) (Australian and K.Z. Press Association,) (United Service) Reed. 12.4 p.m. LONDON, Wed. The High Council of the Salvation Army will meet next Tuesday to hear Mr. W. A. Jowitt, K.C., on behalf of General Booth. The latter’s legal advisers at preseat know nothing of a story that the General will seek to get a BUI through the House of Commons legalising an amendment of the Deed Poll of 1904. The possibility of this course is not dismissed, but it will not be thought of till after the Council’s meeting, or until after possible proceedings iii the Chancery Court. General Booth, in a message to readers of the “War Cry,” says: “My dear comrades, I realise that this is a bad time of perplexity to you as well as to me. Undoubtedly many are asking. ’Where does the General stand?’ Well the General stands where he always stood, for the Army's constitution as interpreted by the foundation deed. “It is the greatest grief of my life that capable, thoughtful men, who have done splendid work for the Army, should doubt the rightness of the founder’s plan, but I do not see any middle course. I must follow the Army flag and adhere to the foundation principles, which are a splendid heritage. ‘.‘l ask you to pray for the Army, for your comrades throughout the world, many of whom are facing peculiar difficulties, and to pray for the High Council, on which a great responsibility rests. “Pray, too, that I may be guided and strengthened to do God’s will. I am thankful for world-wide expressions of sympathy and loyalty. I pray for you, and love you.”
