Some months ago Mount Albert Road was declared a main highway and after much delay, the Highways Board announced that it /would grant a £ tor £ subsidy toward its permanent conThe Mount Roskill Road Board, through whose territory the highway runs for three miles, sought for more liberal terms and was advised that the Highways Board would be in Auckland early in February and would see the road for themselves. At last evening’s meeting of the road board the Highways Board intimated by letter that it would be pleased to meet the road board at 2 p.m. on February 11 at the Auckland Chamber of Commerce. “It’s of no use meeting us in the Chamber of Commerce.” said Mr. G. E. Tansley. “We can’t show them the road down there.” The chairman, Mr. E. F. Jones, said that it had been arranged for the Highways Board to come out to Mount Roskill and meet the board on the ground. “If they saw the road, and what we are up against,” continued Mr. Tansley. “It might loosen the strings of their pockets.” It was decided to ask the Highways Board to meet the board members on the ground.
