A CROQUET MARATHON

AUCKLAND WOMEN’S PLAY

The craze for long-distance contests in sport has extended from transcontinental foot races to cricket and tennis marathons, but it has been left for four Auckland women to establish what must be nearly a record for croquet. Playing at the Dargaville croquet tournament, Mesdames Peart and Simmons (Mount Albert) and Mesdames Parker-Hill and Murray (Remuera) contested a section final for six hours before the Mount Albert pair gained a victory by 26 points to 22. In this amazing endurance test the clever play of Mrs. Peart in making the game for her partner finally turned the result ir. favour of the Mount Albert pair.
