CHILDREN SAVED

HOUSE DESTROYED AT MANGERE Awakened by the crackle of flames early this morning. Mr. Frank Box. a milkman, living in Westney Road, Mangere, hastily removed his six little children. Mr. and Mrs. Box and their family got safely out of the five-roomed house, which was ablaze in a very short time, the flames being fanned by a strong northerly breeze. They managed to save only a little clothing, the building being totally destroyed. The sum of £l2 in money was lost. Mrs. Box was the last of the family to go to bed and everything seemed to be safe when she retired. The owner of the house was Mrs. Edith May, of Blomfield Road. Epsom. The furniture was insured for £ 100 with the State Office.
