CUSTOMS INCREASE
JANUARY’S ADVANCE Auckland customs revenue has shown a marked increase during the last five months, January in particular showing a decided forward move. Customs revenue and tyre-tax figures for the spring and summer buying period. September to January inclusive, 1928-29, compared with the corresponding five months in 1927-28, are as follow:
Figures for the past five months show an increase of more than 10 per cent, over the corresponding period of 192728. This year has opened with an increase in net Customs and tyre tax for January of more than 25 per cent, over the same month last year. Collections of tyre tax were £4.998, compared with £3.088 in January. 1928. The revenue from motor spirit during the month was £31.919, compared with £11,900 in the previous January. Beer duty collections totalled £11.652. compared with £9,599 in January, 1928.
