DOUBLE SUICIDE

BANKERS IN BERLIN UNLUCKY SPECULATION (Australian and N.Z. Press Association) BERLIN, Tuesday. A shock was caused in banking circles in Berlin by the suicide of two of the three partners in a trusted firm of bankers, Katz and Johlauer. The Bourse was reassured on learning that the bank concerned is not affected by the tragedy and is absolutely solvent. One of the partners, Karl Boettcher, was found dead. Tie had shot himself with a revolver. He left a letter to the police saying he had been inveigled by one of the other partners, Max Dukas, into joint speculation through which both had been ruined. This statement was communicated to the firm. It lead to an excited discussion between Dukas and the senior partner, Katz. Hardly had Katz returned to his own room when a shot was heard. Dukas had killed himself.
