RIFLEMEN IN ACTION
TO-MORROW’S BIG SHOOT A.R.A. ANNUAL MEETING The Auckland Rifle Association will hold its annual meeting at Penrose tomorrow. The fixture will be the biggest for six years in view of exceptionally large entries, over 60 men r ompeting. A new departure iswe establishment of a B grade section 111 tyro and junior riflemen. Hitherto these have had to shoot in the same series as the cra<k shots. The idea is to encourage the younger men. The matches, of which there are six in each grade, begin at S a.m. In each match seven rounds will be fired. The matches are over ranges of three, five, six, eight and nine hundred yards. In addition the compulsory service match will be fired. Over UIOO in prize money will be distributed in addition to a large collection of trophies. Several well-known shots will compete. Among these is Captain 11. Simmons, of Paoroa, who will shortly go to Australia with the New Zealand rifle team. A. T. Patrick, of the City and Suburbs Rifle Club, who last year won the B grade championship at the National Rifle Association’s meeting at Trentham. will also compete.
The King’s championship was won last year by A. W. Powell, of tlie Akarana Rifle Club, who also holds the Hutchinson Challenge Cup and the Laidlaw Cup, which is won outright each year.
