MOTORIST’S CLOSE CALL
SAVED BY PRESENCE OF MIND EXPRESS STRIKES CAR especial to THE SUN) OTOROHANGA, Saturday. Presence of mind was responsible for saving Mr. and Mrs. Monrad, of Kio Kio, from a serious accident at a level-crossing near Otorohang. a Mr. Monrd was about to cross the railway line at Kio Kio station, where houses and railway trucks obscured the view, and just as the front wheels of the car touched the line he saw the Limited express 50 yards away. Mr. Monrad steped on the accelerator, but the back of the car was still across the line when the express struck it. The cowcatcher caught the car underneath and threw it to one side, practically wrecking it. Mr. and Mrs. Monrad escaped with severe bruises and a considerable shaking. The train stopped for a few minutes, but proceeded on its way when it was found that no serious personal injury had been received by the motorists.
