ARIKI SAILS WELL IN SQUADRON RACE
GOOD HANDICAPPING The Royal New Zealand Yacht Squadron has every reason for gratification with its harbour races on Saturday. Rarely have so close and interesting contests been staged among the big boats. Another great battle was seen in the squadron’s M class. The A class boats raced for the Macky Memorial Trophy, the B class for the Johnston Cup and the M's for the Wilson Cup. Weather conditions could hardly Have been more favourable. A fresh breeze from the south with a dash of the west in it drove the boats along in fine style out in the Rangitoto Channel. Handled by that fine yachtsman, Mr. W. R. Wilson, the old crack Ariki finished first and won the race. On corrected times Nga-Toa (Mr. E. Winstone) was placed second, only 3Ssec. separating the two. Victory (Mr. H. George) was third on corrections, being ssec. over the second boat's time. The handicapping was exceptionally well done, only 5m 23s separating first and last boats. On corrected times Vaione (Mr. R. J. Worssam) picked up the race for the B’s. Manene (Mr. R. D. Stewart, jnr.) was successful in the M event. The racing officials were: Messrs. A. M. Gilmour, B. W. Beaumont, C. T. Trevithick and J.
