HAIL AND RAIN
COLD SNAP AFTER HEAT After intense heat for the last few weeks a remarkable change in the weather set in yesterday, and there was a distinctly cold snap. At Whangarei there was a heavy fall of rain, and the thermometer dropped 20 degrees to a minimum of 52 degrees. Hamilton was visited by '•ail and rain, and the thermometer fell to 59 degrees. A severe thunderstorm was felt at Cambridge, with very heavy hailstones which covered the country with a white over two inches deep. Dargaville also reports having had a hailstorm, and that the weather was intensely cold. STORM IN CANTERBURY DAMAGE TO CROPS FEARED Press Association CHRISTCHURCH, To-day. strong south-westerly wind, with r euvy rain and hail, has been experienced in Canterbury for two days, damaging many ripening crops and "heat in stock.
