TOTAL NOW £2,716,731 SIX PER CENT. INCREASE For tlie year 1929-30 the total rateable vaiue of the city of Auckland will be £2,716,731, subject to the approval of the Assessment Court. Last year the value passed by the Court was £2,560,507, the increase being 6 per cent. Last year’s total included Avondale, Tamaki and Orakei, the Government valuation on the last two being accepted, but this year the city has placed its own valuation. The city valuer, Mr. P. F. Notley. pointed out that G per cent, might be considered unduly substantial, but building operations costing in the vicinity of £1,300,000 had been carried out during the year. In all the valuation department had the most strenuous year of its existence, 33,994 assessments having had to be made.
