In the Market Place
SOFT FRUITS PLENTIFUL PEACH VALUES LOWER Large supplies of soft fruits are arriving on the City Markets, and the glut of tomatoes is still apparent. Prices are ruling at rates which can leave no return for the producers. Peaches have dropped in value in all lines. Only occasional lots of strawberries and loganberries are coming forward. Fairly large quautities of apricots have arrived from the South, but have been mostly in poor condition. Lemons are selling well. A small quantity of Jaffa oranges has brought good prices. Grapes have decreased in value. Vegetables are meeting with a poor inquiry. Supplies of potatoes, cabbages, beans, lettuce, and cucumbers are particularly heavy. Poultry is plentiful. There is a fair de’mand at low rates. Young drakes are in over-supply. VaFues for cockerels have eased considerably. Good heavy hens are selling well and light breeds are meeting with an improved demand. Quotations: — FRUIT Strawberries—sd to Is sd, according to quality.
