ORATIA COTTAGE BURNED

Yesterday afternoon a four-roomed wooden cottage at Oratia was destroyed by fire. The house was seen to be burning about 3 o’clock in the afternoon, flames and smoke coming through the windows. The neighbours were unable to do anything, and as there was no brigade available, the fire had to be left to burn itself out. It is believed that the cottage, which was owned by Mr. Lowe, was insured for £450.
