EVERYBODY'S
“WHEN DUTY CALLS'’ One can always anticipate a good picture from the famous TJ.F.A. studios, and the latest, “When Duty Calls," a gigantic story of firefighting, shown last evening at the Everybody’s Theatre, is no exception, i There are some excellent shots in the production, including an underground train smash, and the burning ! of a big theatre, in which the girl is thrown from a tenth story window into a sheet below. The story tells how an old man is discharged from the fire service on | account of an injured knee received in the train smash. After failing in a theory test, he is forced to find work elsewhere, but it is when the theatre at which hie daughter works catches fire, that he proves that experience triumphs over theory. There is also a spice of love interest introduced into the picture, when Lore, the daughter of the fireman, falls in love with the lieutenant who caused her father’s dis- I missal. Complications arise, but in j the end the two men shake hands. : This is a picture that lovers of action canncrt afford to miss. “The Matinee Idol,” the second fea- ; ture, is a colourful comedy of backstage theatrical life with a touch of pathos and plenty of laughs. Bessie 1 Love is the leading .player. LUNA PARK The many entertaining devices at | Luna Park continue to attract large ! crowds, despite the change in the ; weather. The management is continuing its policy of providing special attractions free of charge to patrons, and the novelty this week is a sensational trapeze act by “Peg o’ the Ring." The aerial work by this clever artist is proving one of the most sensational turns seen in Auckland.
