ENFORCING PROHIBITION
AMERICAN SENATE VOTES £4,850,000 (Australian and N.Z. Press Association) WASHINGTON, Tuesday. The Senate to-day adopted an amend-, meat to the first Appropriation Bill, providing an additional £4,500,000 for the enforcement of prohibition. This was carried in the face of a protest by Mr. A. W. Mellon, Secretary to the Treasury, who stated that more than £2.600,000 had previously been appropriated. The Senate then adopted an amendment to give the President-elect. Mr. Hoover, £50,000 for an investigation of prohibition enforcement. Both reso-1 lution must now be passed by the House of Representatives before they j can come into force.
