MAIN HIGHWAY REPAIRS
TRAFFIC INSPECTORS TO BE APPOINTED (Special to THE SUN) WELLINGTON, Monday. Owing to the large amount of reconstruction being done on the Great South Road between Auckland and Hamilton, the Main Highway Board proposes to appoint its own traffic inspector to regulate the traffic. To accelerate improvements in the Auckland area, the board, has in many cases authorised the working of double shifts, to overtake delays due to wet weather. DISCUSSION AT MANUREWA At last night’s meeting of the Manurewa Town Board, mention was made by Mr. Fawcett, of the proposed appointment by the Main Highways Board of inspectors of heavy traffic. He recommended that the board be notified that this work is at present being carried out by an inspector employed by them, and to ask the Highways Board to subsidise them for his employment, or else provide one. It was decided to await the definite appointment of the new officers, and then to approach the Highways Board.
