In the Market Place

GLUT OF TOMATOES STRAWBERRIES NEARLY ENDED Tomatoes are in over-supply on the City Markets. To-day they were selling at glut prices. Strawberries are nearly finished, and black currants are scarce. A rise has taken place in the rates for better quality strawberries. A new shipment of Fijian bananas, ex Tofua, was offered to-day. Sales were free, but a portion of the shipment was in such bad order that it sold at sacrifice prices. To-morrow the Ulimaroa is bringing the third shipment to New Zealand in two seasons of Jaffa oranges. Nectarines have made their appearance on the sales benches. Prices are fairly high. Lemons are still in steady demand. Peaches are selling well. Potatoes, onions, cabbages, beans, cucumbers and marrows are very heavily supplied. The inquiry is poorer than it has been for several weeks past. Quotations: — FRUIT Strawberries.—Ordinary, 7d to 9d; choice, Is to Is 2d.
