SWIMMING IN SCHOOLS
NEED FOR INSTRUCTORS OTAGO CENTRE’S VIEWS Press Association DUNEDIN, To-day. The Otago Swimming Centre has decided to include Walker in the Otago team for the men’s diving at the New Zealand championships. Bailey, who registered fastest time in the Batt Cup harbour race, is unable to compete in the Annette Kellerman Cup race, and no official representative will be sent. It has been decided to support the South Canterbury’s remit at the conference that the 1930 championships be allotted to Timaru, and to forward a remit that educational instructors be appointed by the Government for the North and South Islands to visit all schools to instruct teachers and children. Remits that the Government be urged to increase the grant to the New Zealand Swimming Association to £I,OOO, and that the council urge on the Government the desirability of making swimming compulsory in schools, will be supported.
