PLAZA AND TIVOLI
“SHOW GIRL” Light and airy as a soap babbit, and. as irresponsible, and surely one of the most perfect forms of divertissement that has come this way in a long time, is “Show Girl,” the new picture featuring Alice White, now at the Plaza and Tivoli Theatres. This little girl, with her blond hair, and dainty figure, is surely destined for great things in the show world, which includes the screen world. She , has proved in this picture that she has the talent to create a role. For J. P. McEvoy’s heroine was simply a character on paper until Alice invested her with life. The direction by Alfred San tell is superb. The scenes on the stage during musical comedy rehearsals present many shapely girls big sets and plenty of action. Miss White tops everythin*, with her effervescent personality. There is nothing serious about “Show Girl.” It is even flippant, glib, and supremely sophisticated, but it is entertainment, and as such . titled to its share of approval. It is clean and clever. Glenn Try on. known as “the happiness boy,” is the second attraction at both theatres in the Universal-Jew el hit, “How to Handle Women.” Tryon is one of the newest stars to gain fame in comedies, and Carl Laemmle, head of Universal Pictures, rightly predicted that in a short time he would be among the most popular players in the country. His brand of humour is absolutely original. Marion Xixon, called the “sweetest girl in pictures” by her admirers, play’s the featured feminine lead. Miss Xixon has a string of excellent portrayals to her credit, and her present one of Beatrice Fairbanks, the newspaper reporter in “How to Handle Women,” displays her charm and clever acting ability as never before. Wheeler Oakman has been cast for “Bland,” the villain in Tim McCoy’s “Morgan's Last Raid,” at the MetroGold wyn-Mayer studios. He recently played the gangster ruler in Lon Chaney's “While the City Sleeps.”
