SOUTH FEELS HEAT

96 DEGREES IN TIMARU DUNEDIN’S RECORD DAY (Special to THE SUN) CHRISTCHURCH, Friday. A heat wave rolled over Christchurch to-day, and the thermometer rose to 89.5 degrees, easily a record for this summer. There was very little wind, and the sun blazed down from a cloudless sky. In Timaru, late in the afternoon, tlictemperature was 96 degrees, and the beaches were thronged until late in the evening. Dunedin sweltered under a scorching nor’-wester, and the thermometer recorded 92 degrees in the shade and 120 degrees in the sun. This is higher by 10 degrees than any previous recording this summer.
