CHEAP BLACK LIVES
POLICE CRITICISED
INQUIRY AT ADELAIDE
ADELAIDE, Friday
During the cross-examination of Constable Murray, the chairman of the board which is inquiring into the killing of 31 blacks in Central Australia, strongly criticised the casualness with which the police reports treated the taking of tiie blacks’ lives. Constable Murray’s superior at Alice Springs, Sergeant Noblet, was submitted to a raking cross-examination by the chairman. He admitted that he had not verified Constable Murray’s report. He said he had no record of the names of the blacks killed, as he did not think it was necessary.
The board then examined William Morton, who bore a scar extending from the top of his head to his neckevidence of how he nearly lost his life when the natives attacked him.
