FIRE IN POWER STATION
DAMAGE TO EQUIPMENT DISTRICT WITHOUT LIGHT Press Association TE KUITI, Thursday. Extensive damage to station equipment was caused by a fire which occurred at the Hangatiki power substation to-day, due to a transformer breakdown. The attendant was absent at the time. The fire burned for 20 minutes, and occurred during the milking period inconveniencing dairy farmers. It was thought that the damage could be repaired by direct connection at the power station, but it t ■j.s ascerained that the outside transformers were damaged, thus making the latter remedy impossible. The district will be without light and power throughout the night. The extent of the damage at the power station has not been ascertained yet.
