“THE LIE DIRECT”

TRANSPORT BOARD HAS FIRST BREEZE MR. MORTON WITHDRAWS The first breeze of the Auckland Transport Board occurred last evening, Cr. F. S. Morton, the Onehunga councillor, starting it by repeating his version of a private conversation. Mr. Morton said that Mr. A. J. Entrican, another member of the board, had said that he was a member of the board representing the interests of the Auckland city. Mr. Entrican: I said nothing of the sort. Mr. Morton: I give you the lie direct. The Chairman, Mr. J. A. C. Allurn: You are not going to be allowed to speak in that sort of manner at any meeting which I control. You will not be allowed to adopt that sort of attij tude. Mr. Morton: The lie was given to mo first. Mr. Allum: You will kindly withdraw the remark. Mr. Morton: I will withdraw, and say Mr. Entrican assured me lie was on this board in the interests of the citizens of Auckland. Mr. Entrican: 1 told Mr. Morton something in a private conversation that he has no right to bring up here. I stated I was a representative of the citizens. Does Mr. Morton deny that lie represents a portion of the outside area? It does not mean that I will not give everyone fair play. I think my years of public service indicate that the people trust me to give a fair deal.
