CAPSIZE OF MILK-LORRY
DRIVERS NARROW ESCAPE TWO WHEELS COLLAPSE (From Ou.r Own Correspondent) WHANG AJRLEI, Thursday. The dri\er of a motor-lorry laden with milk had a narrow escape from death this afternoon when, in attempting to avoid a collision with another « ar. he ran the vehicle on to the footpath. where it turned upside down and crumpled up. with the driver beneath. The lorry was driven by Mr. Stanley Hoy from the Whangarei Dairy Factory toward Kamo. Travelling up Kamo Road in order to avoid a collision with a delivery van. Mr. Hoy put on the brakes and the lorry struck the kerbing. The load of 100 gallons moved across to one side of the lorry, with the result that both the left-hand wheels completely collapsed. The vehicle went forward a couple of feet and then toppled right over with a. loud crash. It was expected that the driver was crushed beneath, but lie crawled from under the body of the vehicle. The lorry, with the exception of the engine, was wrecked.
