Afghan Rebel Leader May Seek the Throne

Messages from Kabul regarding the dramatic abdication of Amanullah state that it took place on Monda>. wheu the rebels under Bachasak. * surrounded the village of Delkopak. three miles west of Kabul, which v the local headquarters of the King's troops, capturing a large garrison and guns. The rebel troops then bombarded and advanced on the capital. Amanullah immediately abdicated and an armistice was arranged through the mullalis; but the latest information states that fighting is proceeding in the vicinity of Kabul. There is a possibility of the rebel leader, who holds the key to ihe position, being an aspirant to the throne. Trouble between the Duranis and the Shilzais remains, by reason of the fact that the new king, Inayatullah. Amanullah’s brother, belongs to the former tribe. This may result in friction. Although the fighting has been severe in the vicinity of the British Legation, no damage is reported, and all the members of the Legation are safe. Inayatullah, who is 40 years of age, was a prominent assistant to the late King Habibullah, but after Amanullah’s accession he *as imprisoned for three years. Inayatullah’s wife is a sister of the Souriya. Amanullah'* wife.
