BIG FISH LANDED

HUGE BROADBILL CAUGHT FISHERMAN’S TWO-HOUR FIGHT (Special to THE SUN) WHANGAROA, Wednesday. After a great fight lasting two hours, Mr. Stanley Ellis, of Hamilton, fishing from the launch Reelemin, landed the second largest broadbill swordfish to be caught in New Zealand. It weighed 5681 b. The world’s record fish of this species was caught last season by Mr. H. White-Wickham. Mr. Ellis has been fortunate, as in four days he has caught two swordfish, three mako sharks, two reremai sharks and now this huge broadbill. All have been caught off the Ruuhine Reef, Whangaroa. Mr. Ellis has presented his latest prize to the Auckland Museum, and it was dispatched to the freezing works at Moerewa last evening. CATCHES AT RUSSELL MAKO WEIGHING 402L8 (From Our Otcn Correspondent) RUSSELL, To-day. Captain Orr-Ewing caught a mako shark weighing 1901 b from the outboard motor-boat Jean, off Cape Brett. It put up a fight for one hour and 20 minutes. Other catches from the launch Ozone were a mako. 4021 b., and a hammerhead shark, 2001 b.
