LADY BAILEY AT CROYDON RETURN FROM CAPE TOWN British Official Wireless Reed. 10.30 a.m. RUGBY, Wednesday. Lady Bailey landed at Croydon this afternoon in her De Haviland Moth airplane, thus completing her flight from London to Cape Town and back. She had been escorted from Berek, in France, where she took off, by an airplane of the Air Union, which had been sent specially to accompany her. owing to bad weather conditions in the Channel. She was greeted at Croydon by a large, cheering crowd. Lady Bailey has created several new records b£ her flight. She is the first woman to fly from London to Cape Town and back. She has made the longest flight ever accomplished by a woman, and her 18,000 miles journey is the longest solo flight by either a man or a woman. In addition, she is the first woman to have flown over the Congo and the Sahara.
