MESSAGE FROM LORD RANFURLY OFFICERS FOR 1929 Dwindling in numbers year by year, the membership of the King s Lmpue Veterans yet include old soldiers who helped in the malting of New Zealand history, seeing service in the Maori "Wars- of 1860 onward. More than a dozen “old-timers were present at the annual meeting of veterans held at the Returned Soldiers Association rooms yesterday, Lieutenant G. H. Powley presiding. A letter received from Lord llanfurly, founder of the association, cxpressed pleasure that its activities were still carried on. He had lioped to visit tlie Dominion himself, but liad been unable to spare tlie length of time required for such a journey. Members stood while the following list of those who bad died since tlie last annual meeting was read: Major B. Harris, February 12, 1925. aged 92; Mr. R. C. Carr, February 19, 90; Mr. T Grattan, February 27, 83; Captain H. G. Archer, July 26, 79; Mr. George Ellis, August 27, 91; Mr. J. Robinson, September 3, 84; Mr. Charles Palmer, October 8, S 8; Mr. C. W. Eyre, November, 93; Sergeant-Major Taylor, January 10,. 1929, 61. Captain Stitchbury paid a special tribute to the work of the late Captain TI. G. Archer, who had been a prominent supporter of the association since its foundation. The election ctf officers tor tlie ensuing year resulted in. the re-election of Captain Janies Stitchbury as officer commanding, and of Lieut. G. M. Powley as chairman. Tlie vice-presidents and committee are the same except that Captain J. A. Algie was added to tiie vice-presidents. The balance-sheet showed receipts amounting to £l6 2s 9d and an expenditure of £ls Is.
