FINING OF MOTORISTS
BETTER SYSTEM WANTED NEW COURT POSSIBILITY The question of fines imposed on motorists occupied the A.A.A. Council for some time last evening. The association’s solicitor, Mr. J • N. Holmden, wrote pointing out a new system now in operation in London by which the police had decided to give a warning in all minor motoring offences, such as mislaid licences, no rear light, speeding, etc. The council decided to write to the Commissioner of Police asking for an expression of opinion on similar action in New Zealand. From this the meeting went on to discuss the question of local fines, and the method of infliction and coliec--I<The Chamber of Commerce proposes holding a meeting this month to discuss this position. The chairman, Mr. A. Grayson, said he was entirely opposed to officers collecting lines on the spot. It was too open to abuse. The secretary, Mr. G. Hutchison, said there were systems other than the American one, but he believed that there was a good chance of the present Government moving in the direction of setting up a more accessible Court to deal only with traffic cases.
