Obituary

MRS. BRIDGET MOFFAT jMrs. Bridget Moffat, who died at Takapuna on Tuesday, arrived in Auckland from County Clare, Ireland, in 1862, when she was 16 years old. She was the widow of the late Mr. John Moffat, of Orewa, and was one of the last of the original settlers of tho Wade (now Silverdale) and Orewa. districts. For some years Mr. and Mrs. Moffat had lived at Wainui. Mr. Moffat was a member of some of the early councils of the Waitemata County, and he represented his district for 12 years. Both Mr. and Mrs. Moffat were well acquainted with the early history of the Orewa and Wade districts. Until two weeks before her death Mrs. Moffat had not experienced an illness. She had ten children, cf whom seven are living—Mr. John Moffat, Waihi; Mr. James Moffat. Auckland; Mr. William Moffat, Silverdale; Mrs. G. Scholium, Takapuna; Mrs. J. Den by, Xorthcote; Mrs. W. Brunton, Xortlicote; and Mrs. W. S. Meldrum, Silverdale. She also leaves 38 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren. ' MRS. SUSAN ROBINSON ! j A resident of Auckland and the province for over 60 years, Mrs. Susan ! Robinson, of Upper Vincent Street, j died last evening. She was 85 years of age. I On the evening of Boxing Day, Mrs. j Robinson fell and fractured a thigh ! bone. She was taken to a private i hospital, but her conditior gradually j became weaker. { Mrs.. Robinson was the widow of the • late Mr. Robert Robinson. Both were ' well-known early colonists. They were j among the pioneers of the Thames disj trict. Afterwards they lived at Kings - j land when the district was sparsely j settled. Later they lived at Ponsonby for a considerable time before acquir- ' ing their home in Vincent Street. Mrs. Robinson had a large circle of friends. She is survived by two sons and four ! daughters. The sons are Messrs. Robi ert C- Robinson, of Auckland, and i James Robinson, of Wellington. The I daughters are Mesdames William Ross, ; J. Y. Birch, F. A. Hansen and A. W. ! Bunker, all residents of Auckland. MR. ROBERT ALEXANDER j The death occurred suddenly yesterday of Mr. Robert Alexander, at Hami ilton, at the age of 67 years. Mr. Alexander was born in Australia and came :to New Zealand when young. He was manager for the Thames Valley Land Company at Okoroire and Litchfield. | and 27 years ago he joined the Agriculi tural Department as stock inspector at ! Hamilton.
