GLOVED INTRUDER

AUCKLAND HOME ENTERED RANSACKED IN DAYLIGHT Wearing a pair of gloves and armed with a bread-knife which, he used as an impromptu jemmy, an intruder ransacked the bedroom of an Auckland home yesterday and stole £2 in cash. The house was that of Mrs. W. U Whelan, of No. 3 Wembley Road. It was entered between 2.30 p.m. and 3 p.m.—the only time during the day that it was unoccupied. A roar window was selected and the intruder entered a bedroom, which he searched thoroughly. A small box containing the money stolen was broken open with the bread-knife. Another box in the room contained £l2. An attempt was made to open this with a small screwdriver, but it was abandoned.
