DRINK MADE HER STEAL
SHOPLIFTER FINED £5 WOMAN FROM WELLINGTON Explaining that she had had a few drinks and yielded to sudden temptation, Marie Enwright was fined £5 at the Police Court this morning on a charge of shoplifting. Enwright, a married woman, aged 39, was charged with stealing fancywork valued at 19s 6d from a city drapery store, Mr. C. T. Keegan entering a plea of guilty on her behalf. According to Chief-Detective Hammond, the woman had picked up the piece of fancy work, throwing it down when she . realised that she was observed. She was a Wellington woman, and had come up to see her husband, who was on the Northumberland. She had a return ticket for Wellington, and could pay a fine. Mr. Keegan mentioned that his client had had a few drinks and yielded to sudden temptation. The i fancy work was of no usa to her.
