A great French dresmaker said the other day: “To be smart this season you must look neat, but slightly rakish.” Skin-colour lingerie is" featured in America, where, smart women are keeping or acquiring their tan even in winter by means of artificial sun and special toilet preparations. . The. novel cocktail jacket is now being developed in many different kinds of materials, notably transparent velvets. Wine red, deep hunters’ green and navy blue sheer silk hose are being sponsored for wear with shoes of these tones. These colours in hosiery are chosen, in many instances when the costume is developed in that colour; that is, all green, all wine, or all blue. For the red shoe that is worn with a costume in other than red tones, a neutral shade of hose is preferred, it is said, such as Cairo, an olf-grey with pinkish cast.
